Choose moments not materials

“You’ll never see a U-Haul behind a hearse” – actor Denzel Washington.

A true fact, yet why is it that so many folks spend a lifetime working only to accumulate meaningless things?

Tireless efforts spent on that shallow mentality of “keeping up with the Joneses” facades.

How many of us grew up in a household like this? Or know people like this?

A closet full of designer clothes never worn. A fancy china dish set collection that accumulates more dust in a cabinet then food at dinner parties. Lavished furnished rooms in homes that nobody ever sits in. Working endless hours and days to make money only to pay for and accumulate meaningless things that never created any long-term happiness or memorable moments with loved ones.

When have you ever heard someone recall a moment from their childhood and say, “Oh that time when I was 10 years old those designer Gucci sandals for my birthday were the best.” Never. Right?

In a world of technology advancements its easy to get distracted and disconnected. That’s why finding balance is so important. As a mother and wife, I choose a lifestyle of moments not materials. I hope to inspire you to do the same.

Do your loved ones and yourself a favor, give them you – UNPLUGGED.

Detach yourself from the device(s), stop jumping to read every notification. Allow your loved ones to enjoy your undivided attention. Teach your children the same.

Engage in activities, be adventurous with your loved ones. Create bonds: take a hike, a weekend road trip, bake cookies, buy a Groupon for kayaking or miniature golf. The activity itself doesn’t matter, the point is about spending time which in return creates a happy, healthy and meaningful moments with your loved ones. And trust me, your relationships will flourish because of it.
